International Rescue Committee Workers Demand a Fair Contract Now!
We are the unionized workers of the International Rescue Committee. Since IRC Dallas staff organized in 2023, we have organized twelve offices across the country. Every day, we serve people who have come to our country seeking refuge and a better life for themselves and their families. We formed our union because we love the work we do, and we believe in the mission of IRC. We can’t effectively carry out that mission without security, stability and the same dignity in the workplace that we give to our clients.
IRC management has consistently delayed and undermined the bargaining process. On June 23rd, over a month after we sent our initial economic package, management gave us a verbal response in the bargaining room that they are all but rejecting our package in full, and only willing to commit to 2% raises for a small number of staff. Beyond just living wages, management is rejecting all of the proposals in our economic package that are rooted in addressing systemic issues at our workplace that prevent us from delivering the quality of service that our clients need and deserve.
While IRC’s top executives make close to a combined 5 million dollars, many of us, the front line workers, have to work second jobs just to make ends meet. This contract is about the fight for our livelihoods, and for our clients who in this moment of unprecedented attacks on the refugee community, need our work now more than ever.
We are calling on our community to stand in solidarity with us–send an email to IRC leadership demanding they stop the delays, stop the union busting, and secure a contract that we and our clients deserve, NOW!
